It was a slow start to the 2016/2017 season for France but they placed fourth at both the Clermont and Langford tournaments, their best results all year. The result in Clermont and Langford saw the French team qualify for the 2018 Rugby World Sevens Cup in San Francisco. While they managed to develop over the course of the series, France will need to knuckle down in order to continue the momentum they developed, as well as be considered a serious contender for the 2018 Rugby Sevens World Cup.
France became the first country in the world to ban supermarkets from throwing away or destroying unsold food in 2016, forcing them instead to donate it.
Player to watch:
Named in the dream team for the 2017 Clermont tournament, Chloé Pelle is the leading try scorer for France. Pelle was also part of the French 15s side that competed at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland in 2017. The 27-year-old boasts strength and speed on the field and will be one to watch in the upcoming World Series Sevens season.
