The 2016/2017 Womens World Series was a consistent season for the Fiji team, finishing in 4th place on the ladder. This was a massive improvement for a team that placed 8th at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Fiji had a slip up in Langford, Canada, placing 9th but recovered in the last leg of the series at Clermont-Ferrand, France. Coach Iliesa Tanivula is pushing her squad towards being regulars in the top four in 2017/18.
In Fijian villages, only the chief can wear hats and sunglasses. The top of the head is sacred, and is not meant to be touched.
Player to watch:
Young gun Miriam Naiobasali had a stellar season for Fiji throughout the 2015/16 season. While Naiobasali missed out on the last leg of the series in Clermont due to injury, the 2017/2018 season looks promising for the young speedster, who has racked up over 24 tries in her time with the Fijiana Sevens.
